NDMV volunteers are placed at local 501c3 nonprofits and schools where they will complete a year of service. 

The service term kicks off with an orientation, where Volunteers will receive a comprehensive overview of the program, meet NDMV staff, and connect with their cohort. There will be virtual bi-weekly team meetings, as well as 2 virtual retreats (in the Fall and Spring), and an in-person retreat that will focus on leadership development through personal, professional and spiritual growth. Throughout the year, Volunteers will also have the opportunity to attend National Service Day events and connect with over 6,000 NDMV alumni across the country.

While position descriptions vary depending on the placement site, all Volunteers serve with local partners to expand access to education, health, food security, and community resources. At the heart of our approach is relationship-centered service: one-on-one and small group support, mentoring youth, coaching adults working toward academic or career goals, and helping families navigate community resources.

• Must be 17 years or older (no upper age limit) with parental or legal guardian consent if under 18

• Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident of the U.S.

• Must participate in a national service criminal history background check and satisfy NSCHC eligibility criteria pursuant to 45 CFR 2540.202

• Must be a high school graduate, GED recipient, or working towards attaining a high school diploma or GED during your term of service and prior to utilizing the educational awards

• Must be able to commit to service for the full program term 

• Must not have served more than 2 terms of AmeriCorps service

  • Site Managers will reach out to schedule interviews once an application has been received

• Interview with Partnering Site (s)

  • Applicants may interview with one or more service sites in their area of choice.

• Background Checks

  • Once confirmed, Site Managers will guide applicants through the background check process, which includes a National Service Criminal History Background Check: FBI fingerprinting, State of Service Check, State of Residence Check, and Social Security and Citizenship Check. The Volunteer’s start date and ability to serve are dependent on the results of their background check.

• Applications open from February 1 until August 1 for full-year positions and from October 1 to January 4 for half-year positions.

• Interviews will take place during the months of March until mid-August for full year positions and from October until early January for half year positions.

• Background checks will begin in June.

• Orientation for full-year positions will be on August 17, 2026, or September 1, 2026. 

• Orientation for half-year positions will be on January 4, 2027, or January 19, 2027.

• The service year will end on June 30, 2027, for all positions.
